What is Idolatry? I'm completely confused?

Idolatry is object of substituted worship. The most common form these days is Genesis-worship. The term iconoclast refers to those who destroyed icons because they were turning into the target of worship. Perhaps the best Biblical example, better than the Golden Calf, was Hezekiah destroying Moses's staff because it was being worshiped directly.
