Eastern European Traditions?
I married a man from Eastern Europe who I absolutely love. He and his family immigrated to America from Bulgaria when he was 13. He's everything I could ever want and more; however, I HATE his family. It's like they demand respect, and feel the need to always give unsolicited advice, and expect us to always do what they want. Infact, if I ever do something that doesn't meet with their express approval, they tell me how disprespectful I am, and how they are older than me, so I should do what they want etc. They also seem to hate me if I don't follow their traditions to the letter. I'm all for incorporating some of them in our lives, but I have a family and a culture I'm contributing to this marriage too. They say that since I married a Bulgarian, I should adhere to what they want. I think that's insane. Are all Bulgarians like this? I have a young son, and don't want them in our lives if they are doing this all the time. Also, my husband doesn't understand how big this is....
