My lazy, stubborn long-distance boyfriend - should I stay or should I go?

I'm in a long distance relationship. My boyfriend's been out of work since february and has no intention of working unless it is a very specific role (animation). He's on the dole and plays video games all day, waiting around for his dream job that might ever materialise. When I say that he's being a bit fussy, he gets annoyed and says "you might be able to hack a crappy retail job (Im a writer) but I couldnt". I see his point but this isnt easy to accept considering we plan on moving in together one day. His family are mad at him for being like this, and his poor mum is struggling while he does nothing to help her with chores or bills. I feel guilty because I'm starting to have feelings for a close friend who is responsible and mature, and I don't think my boyfriend is. I know this friend likes me too and would like to go out with me, but I feel so guilty at the thought of hurting my boyfriend. That said, I'm really annoyed at him for being like this and don't think he'll change!
